Countdown To A New Brown | The Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project

Station Status:

On Monday, December 3, 2007, the Irving Park station temporarily closed to rail service for 12 months as part of the Brown Line capacity expansion project.

Alternate Transportation Options

While the Irving Park station is closed, customers may board the Brown Line at the newly-reopened adjacent Montrose or Addison stations. These stations will remain open during the temporary closure of the Irving Park station to allow customers continued access to Brown Line service.

While the Irving Park station is closed, customers may choose to travel on any of the following nine CTA bus routes that provide service near the station:

•	#X80 Irving Park Express
•	#50 Damen
•	#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
•	#9 Ashland
•	#X9 Ashland Express (weekdays only)
•	#78 Montrose
•	#152 Addison
•	#22 Clark

The Chicago Transit Board approved a construction contract on
July 20, 2006 for the reconstruction of the Addison, Damen, Montrose and Irving Park Brown Line stations as part of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project. Following contract approval, the construction contractor prepared and submitted a construction plan to CTA for approval.

Each station will be subject to temporary closure for a period of 12 months during construction. However, no two adjacent stations will be scheduled to close at the same time so customers may go to the next closest station for service. During periods of temporary closure, customers are encouraged to use the most convenient existing CTA bus and rail service in the area.

The renovated Irving Park station will benefit all Brown Line customers with:

•	Longer platforms that accommodate longer trains Eight-car trains (two additional cars) means more customers can board.
•	Accessibility for everyone Elevators and accessible turnstiles meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
•	Modern and convenient features Wider stairways to improve platform access, more turnstiles to ease congestion and additional exits/entrances to improve the flow of customer traffic.
