Countdown To A New Brown | The Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project

Station Status:

On November 26, CTA reopened the Montrose station to customers and temporarily closed the Damen station for up to 12 months. On December 3, the CTA reopened the Addison station and temporarily closed the Irving Park station for up to 12 months. Both Montrose and Addison have been closed to service since December 2, 2006.

Station improvements include the installation of elevators which makes the stations accessible to customers with disabilities. In addition, platforms have been lengthened so longer trains will eventually be able to operate there, stairways have been widened and improvements such as brighter lighting and windbreaks are also part of the upgrades.

The renovated Montrose station benefits all Brown Line customers with:

•	Longer platforms that accommodate longer trains Eight-car trains (two additional cars) means more customers can board.
•	Accessibility for everyone Elevators and accessible turnstiles meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
•	Modern and convenient features Wider stairways to improve platform access, more turnstiles to ease congestion and additional exits/entrances to improve the flow of customer traffic.
