Irving Park Station
1816-18 W. Irving Park Rd.
Chicago, IL 60613
Station Status:
Irving Park Station Reopened
December 6, 2008

The Irving Park station reopened to customer service on
December 6, 2008.

The renovated stationhouse, situated in the same location at
1816-18 W. Irving Park Road, is accessible to customers with disabilities with the addition of elevators—bringing the total of accessible CTA rail stations to 86 out of 144.

In addition to new elevators, CTA also reconfigured the inbound and outbound platforms to make them longer, wider and able to accommodate eight-car trains at the station.  Other amenities include accessible turnstiles, brighter lighting, new signs - including Braille signs - and a bike rack.

The Chicago Transit Board approved a construction contract on
July 20, 2006 for the reconstruction of the Addison, Damen, Montrose and Irving Park Brown Line stations as part of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project. Following contract approval, the construction contractor prepared and submitted a construction plan to CTA for approval.

Each station was subject to temporary closure for a period of 12 months during construction. However, no two adjacent stations were scheduled to close at the same time so customers were advised to go to the next closest station for service. During periods of temporary closure, customers were encouraged to use the most convenient existing CTA bus and rail service in the area.
